The Social Policy and Parliamentary Unit of The Salvation Army published its latest ‘State of the Nation’ report in February. To social commentators and policy makers this is a critical report, but what can ‘we’ do with it? How can ‘we’ read it? Could its recommendations, statistics and tables be read as a prayer for others, even as the prayers of others?

Reading the ‘State of the Nation’ as a lectio divina, Malcolm Irwin will explore how this report can be read not only as a social commentary, but as a prayer-full reading that demands our response.

Malcolm Irwin is currently working to complete a PhD in socio-theology through the University of Canterbury. He holds the office of ‘Envoy’ in The Salvation Army and is presently appointed to the Centre for Leadership Development at the Booth College of Mission in Wellington.

A copy of the latest ‘State of the Nation’ can be downloaded here.

See the attached flyer for more information and please pass this on to your staff and congregations.

We hope to see you there.
